The Next Wave Festival App

By Next Wave / 17 April

When we went about creating an app for Next Wave Festival 2014, we wanted more than just a box office. We wanted an interactive tool to help audiences navigate and enhance their Festival experience and help them explore all that Melbourne has to offer.

Through partnerships with Art Processors and Three Thousand, we’ve created a brand new, experiential Next Wave App for iPhone and Android devices – and she’s a spunk.

There’s all the normal stuff like program and ticket details, but we’ve also included artist-submitted extras like written anecdotes, audio interviews, behind-the-scenes video content to round out your festival experiences. Everything’s hooked up to your GPS, so you’ll be able to discover as you travel.

The Free Rides planner will help you map a journey through the Festival’s free exhibitions, talks programs, parties and live art installations. Over 50% of our program is free, so map your own Free Ride and discover the Festival and Melbourne surrounds without even opening your wallet.

Tapping into Melbourne foodie culture, our app boasts an Eat Drink section with nearby restaurant, bar and café recommendations handpicked by our partners at Three Thousand. Swipe away to plan your Next Bite, Next Beer or Next Brew between Festival events.

And finally, in honour of Next Wave’s 30th birthday, we’re calling out for geo-located images, audio and written Next Wave Memories from past festivals. There are already a few crowd-sourced memories mapped throughout the city for app users to discover as they make their way through the festival. Submit your own right here.
